The Ophthalmology Department provides an ophthalmic outpatient service, an inpatient consultation service, and a Day Surgery Service for different types of ophthalmic procedures. Specialist interest and services within the department include cataract surgery, Neuro- ophthalmology, Strabismus, Corneal Disease, Lacrimal Surgery, Oculoplastics and Orbital Disease management.

Dr. John Fitzgerald, Consultant Anaesthesiologist

A graduate of UCD, Dr. Fitzgerald completed specialist training in Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine with the College of Anaesthetists Ireland (CAI) in 2017. He achieved additional qualifications during this time including fellowship with the Joint Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine, Ireland and EDIC with the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine. He subsequently pursued addition subspecialty training in Toronto, Canada in the fields of cardiovascular anaesthesia, transesophageal echo, regional anaesthesia and pain management.
