Beaumont Hospital’s Information & Communications Technology Department (ICT) has been recognised with the prestigious Imprivata Clinical Impact Award for its successful implementation of Single Sign-On (SSO) technology across its health system. This award recognises healthcare organisation’s commitment to innovation, security, and improving the patient experience.

The new single sign-on solution streamlines access to clinical applications, enabling physicians, nurses, and a wide range of hospital staff to securely log in with just one set of credentials. By reducing the time spent on repeated logins, clinical staff can spend more time focused on patient care.

This major ICT project involved deploying Imprivata’s industry-leading identity and access management platform throughout Beaumont Hospital. Through extensive planning, training, and a phased rollout, Beaumont’s ICT department ensured a smooth transition with minimal disruption on day-to-day operations. Early feedback from clinical staff has been overwhelmingly positive, with many citing faster access to critical applications and less frustration with password management. Based on a conservative estimate of around 5 seconds per password entry, it is estimated that the rollout of the Imprivata SSO potentially saved approximately 649 staff hours throughout August 1st – 31st 2025. While the actual time saved will vary by application and workflow, these figures illustrate the scale of authentication activity supported by the platform and the possible efficiency gains.

Mark Graham, Director of ICT said; “This award reflects the dedication and expertise of our IT team, to deliver technology that truly supports our frontline staff. Beaumont is the first healthcare provider in Ireland to recognise the value of the SSO platform and trial it in various departments across the hospital. With the support of the Technology and Transformation Team in the HSE, Beaumont was able to expand the trial and roll-out the platform hospital wide”.

Mr Graham concluded by saying: “Implementing a single sign-on both enhances security and improves efficiency, helping the hospital to prioritise patient care. With SSO now installed throughout the hospital and with 4300 staff registered to use it, our clinical teams will save valuable time and reduce IT delays”.

Beaumont Hospital continues to invest in digital innovations to further support its mission to provide expert care to its patients, the community it serves, and delivering the overall priorities of the hospital.
