Beaumont Hospital has officially opened a new Changing Places facility in the Outpatient Department at Beaumont Hospital.
The new facility marks a significant step forward in the provision of Changing Places Toilets in Ireland in a hospital setting and it represents a vital development in promoting dignity, inclusion and accessibility for people with complex needs in Beaumont Hospital.Changing Places facilities or toilets are specially equipped for individuals who require additional support. They provide essential equipment such as a height-adjustable adult-sized changing bench, a ceiling-mounted hoist, and a centrally positioned toilet with enough space for carers to move around and a larger overall layout to facilitate safe and dignified assistance. These features enable individuals with disabilities and their carers to use toilet facilities safely and comfortably.
Anne Coyle, Chief Executive of Beaumont Hospital said: “The addition of the Changing Places facility at Beaumont Hospital reflects our commitment to providing a healthcare environment that is accessible and inclusive for all who use our services. Facilities like this make a real difference to people’s experience, removing barriers and supporting people to access care with dignity, comfort and confidence. At Beaumont Hospital, we remain committed to a person-centred approach to care and to making meaningful improvements that enhance safety, accessibility and inclusion for everyone.”
Alan Breathnach, Chief Executive Officer of Muscular Dystrophy Ireland said: “This important development reflects the power of collaboration and the value of listening to the needs of people living with neuromuscular conditions. We have worked closely with Beaumont Hospital to advocate for this essential facility, which will significantly improve access, dignity, and inclusion for our members attending clinics. The provision of a Changing Places facility ensures that individuals with complex needs are respected and properly supported within the healthcare setting."
He added "We would like to sincerely thank the CEO of Beaumont Hospital and the dedicated team for their openness, engagement, and swift action in delivering this much-needed service. This is a meaningful step forward in ensuring equitable healthcare access for all. The introduction of the changing places facility addresses the challenges faced by patients and carers when attending for hospital appointments enabling patients with complex care needs to access care with greater comfort and dignity.”
Beaumont Hospital provides care to a diverse patient population with a wide range of care needs. The opening of this facility reflects the Hospital’s commitment to continually improving the patient experience and on making meaningful changes that improve safety, accessibility and inclusion for all who use our services.
