X-ray Service

What is an X-ray?

Plain radiography, or X-ray, is the most commonly used form of diagnostic imaging. It uses small amounts of radiation that are passed through a selected part of the body to produce an image on film.

How to get an appointment for an X-ray?

  • GP patient: To get an appointment for an x-ray your GP must send the referral to us via Healthlink. The referrals are reviewed, and an appointment letter will be sent in the post to your address.
  • Outpatient: If you have attended a consultant appointment in Beaumont and they have requested an x-ray for you an appointment letter will be sent in the post to your address.

Where will my X-ray be done?

X-rays are performed in 3 locations:
-    Radiology department, lower ground floor of Beaumont Hospital
-    X-ray department in St Joseph’s Hospital
-    X-ray department OMNI shopping centre

Your appointment letter will clearly state the location of your x-ray.

How do I get my results?

Your results will be sent to the doctor that referred you for the x-ray. If your GP did not send you for the x-ray then they will not automatically receive the results. Results are not sent to your home address.
