For people living with end stage kidney disease, successful kidney transplantation provides many benefits such as significantly increasing life expectancy, and providing substantial improvements in overall health and quality of life.
Kidney transplantation or renal transplantation is the organ transplant of a kidney into a patient with end-stage renal disease. A kidney transplant requires an operation that places a healthy kidney in your body. The transplanted kidney takes over the work of the two kidneys that failed, so you no longer need dialysis.
The National Kidney Transplant Service (NKTS), co-ordinated through Beaumont Hospital is committed to delivering a world-class kidney transplant service to the citizens of Ireland. The pages in this section of our website describe the services provided by the Transplant team in Beaumont.
The Kidney Centre has developed a number of patient guides & videos to help you through your transplant journey. We encourage you to watch the videos on the website and read the patient information leaflets/guides which will explain the various options available to you. Please take the time to read our guide on Kidney Transplantation - A Guide for Patients from Beaumont Hospital and have a look at the video.
The link below will take you to additional patient information videos, presented by the National Kidney Transplant Team, which explains kidney transplantation and should help prepare you for coming to our transplant clinic for evaluation, how to look after yourself while you await a kidney transplant, the different donor types that may be available to you, how the transplant pool works, the transplant procedure itself and living kidney donation.
