Consultant Medical Oncologist

Dr Ronan McLaughlin is a Consultant Medical Oncologist at Beaumont RCSI Cancer Centre with specialist expertise in gastrointestinal cancers, primary central nervous system (CNS) tumours and precision oncology. He has broad training and experience in general medical oncology across multiple cancer types, alongside advanced subspecialty expertise in gastrointestinal and CNS malignancies.
He completed Higher Specialist Training in Medical Oncology through the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland before undertaking advanced fellowship training at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre and the University of Toronto. During his time in Toronto, he completed fellowships in gastrointestinal oncology and neuro-oncology and was appointed Chief Medical Oncology Fellow in the Department of Haematology and Medical Oncology at the University Health Network.
Dr McLaughlin has a strong academic and translational research portfolio, with particular interests in pancreatic and gastroesophageal cancers, molecular biomarkers, cancer genomics and the development of personalised treatment strategies. His research has contributed to international collaborative studies in precision oncology and has been presented and published internationally.
Dr McLaughlin's academic and research work has been recognised through multiple national and international awards and competitive fellowships, including a Canadian Young Investigator Award, as well as awards and recognition from the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) and European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO). He was also awarded competitive fellowships supporting his research in pancreatic cancer at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre.
At Beaumont, Dr McLaughlin is actively involved in developing precision oncology services and leads the Regional Molecular Tumour Board, supporting the integration of genomic and molecular information into treatment decision-making for patients with cancer.
Alongside his clinical and research work, Dr McLaughlin has a strong interest in medical education, leadership and service development. His overarching focus is on bringing together high-quality clinical care, molecular diagnostics, research and clinical trials to expand access to personalised cancer treatment for patients at Beaumont RCSI Cancer Centre.
