Dr. Ronan McLaughlin is a Consultant Medical Oncologist at Beaumont RCSI Cancer Centre. He has broad training and experience in general medical oncology, with specialist expertise in gastrointestinal and aerodigestive cancers, primary central nervous system (CNS) tumours, skin cancers and precision oncology.
He completed Higher Specialist Training in Medical Oncology through the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland before undertaking advanced clinical and research fellowships at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre and the University of Toronto. His fellowship training encompassed gastrointestinal oncology, neuro-oncology and cancer genomics. During his time in Toronto, he was appointed Chief Medical Oncology Fellow at the University of Toronto.
Dr. McLaughlin has a strong clinical and translational research portfolio, with particular interests in pancreatic and gastroesophageal cancers, molecular biomarkers, cancer genomics and personalised treatment strategies. He has contributed to international collaborative studies, with his research published in peer-reviewed journals and presented at major international oncology meetings.His academic work has been recognised through national and international awards, including Canadian Young Investigator Awards and awards from the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) and the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO). He also held the Jeff Brock Family Fellowship in Pancreatic Cancer Research and the Wilfred G. Lewitt Fellowship at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre.
At Beaumont, Dr. McLaughlin serves as Regional Lead for the National Molecular Tumour Boards and is actively involved in developing precision oncology services, supporting the integration of genomic and molecular information into treatment decisions. He also has a strong interest in medical education, clinical leadership and service development, with a focus on improving access to personalised cancer care, research and clinical trials.
Dr. McLaughlin provides medical oncology assessment and treatment across a broad range of solid tumours, with particular expertise in gastrointestinal and aerodigestive cancers, primary CNS tumours and skin cancers.
His practice includes chemotherapy, immunotherapy and targeted therapies, alongside the assessment and management of treatment-related toxicities. His specialist interests include cancer genomics, molecular profiling and precision oncology, using tumour characteristics and genomic information to guide individualised treatment where appropriate.
