Recent Social Work Department Bereaved Parents Support Day
Tuesday October 13, 2015
Last Saturday Oct 4th, the Social Work Department hosted the annual Bereaved Parent’s Day for parents whose child has died in Beaumont Hospital or in the community following treatment in the Hospital. This took place in All Hallows College.
This day is organised and run each year by the Social Work Department. In previous years, parents have welcomed the opportunity to meet with other parents who have experienced the death of a child, and they have found the day very helpful and supportive.
The day began with a personal reflection by Sharon Vard, CEO of Anam Cara whose beloved Daughter Rachel died aged 5. This was followed by the personal journeys of two parents from the group, Fran and Aine, who reflected on the loss of their beloved son Eoin. The afternoon group work session facilitated by two social workers focussed on honouring and remembering their children.
Many thanks to the Social Work Department, and in particular Fiona McInerney and the Bereavement Service, the admin staff in the Social Work Dept and Colm in Printing who help to host this very special day each year that is no doubt a sad day for all concerned but hopefully a comfort for bereaved parents.
