Annual Clinical Audit and Patient Safety Meeting - How Beaumont is Safe Guarding Standards of Quality and Care

The 2nd Annual Clinical Audit & Patient Safety meeting took place on Wednesday, May 15th. Organised by Clinical Governance office, the meeting provided an opportunity to learn about how the Hospital is improving quality and safeguarding standards of care.
The meeting was opened by Dr. Edmond Smyth, Chair of Clinical Governance, and followed by the first of the keynote speakers Mr. Peter Watkin Jones, Solicitor to the Mid Staffordshire Public Inquiry (which investigated the unusually high mortality rates amongst patients at the Stafford Hospital in the UK), who presented the inquiry's findings, recommendations and likely impact. Dr. Philip Crowley, HSE Director Quality & Patient Safety Directorate, followed with an overview of the future direction of quality & patient safety in Ireland.
The meeting concluded with parallel sessions where speakers representing a variety of services/departments/directorates across the Hospital presented a rich mix of audit/patient safety projects. Over 30 posters were also presented at the meeting. The meeting was attended by over 200 staff including representatives from the National Office of Clinical Audit (NOCA).
