Respiratory Services (Physiotherapy)
A 24 hour on-call service is offered to acutely unwell patients. A weekend service is also offered to respiratory patients where appropriate.
Intensive Care Service
Beaumont Physiotherapy Department has a dedicated Intensive Care Service which provides acute respiratory and rehabilitative care to patients in the General and Neurosurgical Intensive Care units.
Medical Service
The physiotherapy department provides an in-patient service for respiratory care and rehabilitation of medical patients where appropriate. Areas of speciality include
- Pulmonary Rehabilitation
- Home oxygen assessment
Surgical Service
The physiotherapy department provides an in-patient service for post operative patients. The service manages patients in the general intensive care setting and provides rehabilitation where appropriate. Specialities include:
- Tracheostomy Initiative (Joint venture with neurosurgery service)
- Post Ear Nose and Throat surgery care (ENT)
- Post Renal surgery care
- Post Upper and Lower Abdominal surgery care
Respiratory Outpatients
The physiotherapy department provides an out-patient service for medical respiratory patients and neuromuscular patients. Areas of specialities include:
- Ambulatory oxygen assessments
- Airway clearance and exercise prescription
- Respiratory management of neuromuscular patients at the consultant led respiratory clinics monthly
Cystic Fibrosis Service
This service is offered to in and outpatients with CF under the care of a respiratory consultant. Management includes assessment of respiratory function. This consists of:
- Education in appropriate airway clearance techniques
- Provision of airway clearance devices
- Non-Invasive Ventilation (NIV)
- Exercise
- Musculoskeletal screening and intervention where appropriate
