Learning & Development

About Us

The Learning & Development function, in conjunction with the Hospital's Executive Management Team and Line Managers, supports the promotion of life-long learning. All staff are provided with the opportunity for education, training and development activities to enable them in their roles providing the highest standards of excellence in the provision of patient care.

Learning & Development is strategically linked to the Organisational Development Department and is located in the Centre of Education.


MSc in Organisational Change and Leadership Development

In May 2010, Beaumont Hospital, in partnership with DCU Business School and the Institute ofMasters Programme Flyer Leadership and Healthcare Management in the RSCI, launched an innovative MSc in Organisational Change & Leadership Development Programme. The objectives of the programme are to develop Leaders and Managers who will play a key role in leading and enabling change that contributes to performance and service improvement for patients who rely on our care.

Among the unique features of this programme is its focus on addressing current Hospital/Healthcare priorities in the form of live action research/change projects underpinned by best in class leadership & change management development skills.

The MSc in Organisational Change & Leadership Development received an Outstanding Achievement award at the 2013 Irish Institute of Training & Development (IITD) National Training Awards

Beaumont Hospital received an outstanding achievement award for our MSc in Organisational Change & Leadership Development at the IITD awards ceremony which took place on Friday March 22nd. This is is the second award two years in a row for this innovative programme. Fifteen multidisciplinary staff from across Beaumont, the local community, and the wider healthcare region are coming towards the end of year one of the two-year programme, which is accredited at Level 9 on the National Qualifications Framework and carries 192 CME’s.


Learning & Development Strategy

In May 2009, the Hospital's new Learning & Development Strategy was launched. The strategy encompasses collective input from a large diversity of staff disciplines within the Hospital and a range of external stakeholders.

As a leading-edge teaching Hospital, Beaumont is committed to creating an environment that supports learning and development for all staff.  This strategy is the key to achieving excellence in patient care and to enabling high performance teams working across professions and disciplines.

The Learning & Development Strategy is constructed around a framework comprising of five core work streams:

  • Excellence in Learning and Development
  • Employer of Choice
  • Integrated Patient Care
  • High Performance Culture
  • Multidisciplinary Team Working

These five work streams represent the key building blocks required for an organisational approach to learning and development that:

  • is proactive
  • has system-wide application
  • is linked to strategic planning
  • will support cultural change and continuous improvement
  • meets the needs of both staff and the Hospital now and into the future.

The delivery of these work streams underpins the Hospital's desire to be a leading-edge health care provider.
