Irelnad AM host Sinead Desmond helps launch nurse recruitment drive at Beaumont Hospital

Friday August 28, 2015

Ireland AM host Sinéad Desmond has helped launch a major drive to recruit nurses at one of the country’s largest hospitals where she was treated for a brain haemorrhage.

Dublin’s Beaumont is looking for nurses in the emergency department, critical care, neurosurgery and general medical and surgical specialities and hopes to entice nurses home who left to work abroad.

It is offering a relocation package that includes the cost of flights.
Karen Greene, Beaumont’s director of nursing, said: ‘We’re always looking to add more great candidates to our talent pool across a range of areas.’

Ms Desmond praised the staff at the hospital after she was admitted in 2008 suffering from a brain haemorrhage.

At the launch yesterday, she said: ‘I am so lucky to be standing here today healthy and well. I know the amazing staff here played a huge role in that.

I can’t praise their hard work and dedication more highly.’
She had collapsed on air while reading the newspapers with co-presenter Mark Cagney.

She said at the time: ‘I felt a pain in the back of my neck, similar to the kind of cramp you can get swimming.

‘I remember saying to Mark during a break that I think I should lie down. I was rushed to Tallaght Hospital and then to Beaumont.’
