Recent North Dublin Hospitals Mass Casualty Simulation Exercise

Monday November 07, 2022

The Major Incident Planning Team in Beaumont Hospital were delighted to organise and host the inaugural Trauma event in the Emergency Planning Offices Phoenix Park on Oct 13 last. The event involved three northside Hospitals Beaumont, Connolly & The Mater with invited guests from the National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC), National Ambulance Service (NAS), Dublin Fire Brigade (DFB) and An Garda Siochana.

The exercise was constructed in such a way that each hospital had audio-visual communication with each other and with the exercise co-ordination centre. This enabled learning across the three hospitals and provided open communications with multi-agencies who would be involved in such an incident. This multiagency exercise simulated a terrorist attack involving 160 casualties that were dispersed between the hospitals thus allowing each hospital to test their own mass casualty plan. A stop start approach was taken to allow participants to feedback at various intervals regarding their hospitals/agencies response to the incident.

The Major Incident Planning Team would like to thank all who participated in this exercise.
